Lose or dead skin forming on the feet is a natural way of exfoliating and getting rid of the dead skin cells. The primary reason behind the buildup of dead skin is the lack of moisture. If the feet are kept closed in shoes or socks for long hours, the moisture is lost. Sometimes the friction caused by walking or running also becomes the reason for dry skin. If you are not regular with foot care and don’t scrub and exfoliate often, there is a chance to end up with dead skin.

Dead skin on the bottom of feet appear as dry, cracked, hanging, or lose. Dead skin is usually not painful unless there is an infection, eczema, or athlete’s foot. If you feel pain in the feet and suspect that the dead skin might be the cause, it would be better if you see a doctor at the earliest.

Apart from these medical conditions, removing dead skin is often for cosmetic purposes or to make your feet more comfortable. There are several ways to remove dead skin from the feet; here, we are sharing some of these ways. You can try whichever you think is best suitable for you.

Paraffin wax

May salons offer paraffin wax in their pedicures. This is a soft wax melted at medium temperature. The burn shouldn’t be too hot to irritate or burn the skin. Paraffin wax treatment can be performed at home as well. You will need an at-home paraffin wax bath, or you can simply heat the wax in a saucepan, shift it in the bowl once it is heated, and dip your feet in it.

Feet are dipped several times in the wax to get layers of wax on them. Wrap the feet in plastic. Please wait for the wax to harden and when it sets, remove it. This will remove all the dead skin from your feet, and the skin will feel soft afterward.

If you are performing the treatment at home, ensure to check the temperature before dipping your feet. You can use a candy thermometer to check the temperature. However, paraffin wax should not be tried if your feet have low blood circulation, an open wound or sore on the feet, or lost feeling in the feet for reasons like diabetic neuropathy.

It is an hour-long treatment that is performed at home. The unique plastic booties are available easily for this treatment. You have to apply these booties to the feet for an hour for this treatment. These booties contain a gel solution of fruit acid and some moisturizers to shed dead skin from the feet.

There are instructions given on the packaging of the plastic booties which need to be followed precisely. These instructions are somewhat like:

  • Wet your feet before applying the booties.
  • Secure the booties with adhesive tape.
  • Leave them on for an hour.
  • Remove the booties after an hour.
  • Wash the feet with soap and water gently.

Over the period of the next three to seven days, you will need to wet your feet for peeling to occur. There are no scientific studies that support this treatment’s benefits or efficiency, but it is still very popular.

Oatmeal Scrub

Oatmeal scrub can be made at home. It works as a fantastic exfoliator to remove dead skin. All you need are equal amounts of oatmeal and milk or rosewater. Mix the two ingredients well, and voila!

  • Apply it and let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Use a foot brush to exfoliate.
  • Rinse with cold water and let the feet dry.
  • Apply a good foot cream afterward.

This treatment would work best when applied every other day.
